RACE Team
Jr. Varsity Team (JV) - formerly known as South Series(Must have coaches recommendation) Ages: 10-12 Focus: Develop race tactics. Introduce speed elements. A mixture of all mountain skiing and gate training. Target Athlete to Coach ratio: 8:1
The program begins to emphasize a more competitive alpine skiing experience. The coaches help develop a technical and tactical base of knowledge and stimulate the desire of skiers to learn more about Slalom, Giant Slalom and Super G (USSA ruling: J5's may not participate in SG). Training includes skiing bumps, powder, trees, jumps, gates, and steeps. In addition, the program will cover basic equipment preparation and more. Athletes train using stubbie and rapid gates, as well as video, and portable timing as applicable. Skiers participate in South Series races with the goal of being invited to Intermountain Championships at the end of the season.
Varsity Team (Var) - New for the 2004-2005 seasonAges: 13-19 Focus: Provide positive ski racing experience by allow older athletes the opportunity to match their skiing ability and commitment to their desired level. Junior Olympic Team (JO) - Must have coaches recommendation Ages: 13-19 Focus: Physical and Mental aspects of ski racing. The complete package. Target Athlete to Coach ratio: 6:1 The JO Team is a group of highly dedicated athletes striving to be the very best athlete they can be. These athlete condition all summer and spend 5-7 days a week on the snow in the winter. This is the place where daily changes in schedules, training plans and any other pertinent information will be posted. The program offers the top training and competitive situations to junior skiers. Athletes will be exposed to an increased variety of situations in training and competition. They will continue development of their racing skills in preparation for the higher levels of alpine ski racing, including Junior Olympics and beyond. Athletes train using rapid gates, video, and portable timing as applicable. Athletes participate in some South Series, JO J3 Series, and some Open Series races. FIS - Qualifying athletes only - USSA points below 100.Ages: 15-19 The program is designed for accomplished athletes who have devoted the time and energy into the sport of ski racing. This is a group of athletes who live for the opportunity to test their ski racing skills against others. Athletes will compete in national events with a chance to compete at the international level. Athletes will travel as a member of the Intermountain Division to most of these events. The program will be staffed depending on the number of athletes participating in this program. |
